Lack of proliferation of circulating white blood cells in patients with syphilis before and after a Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction.

چکیده
The occurrence of lymphoblasts in peripheral blood, measured by incorporating tritiated thymidine ([3H]dThd), was studied before, during, and after a Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction in patients with early syphilis. No difference in [3H]dThd incorporation into peripheral white blood cells was found between five patients with syphilis and 19 healthy controls, whereas in 20 cord blood samples [3H]dThd incorporation was significantly increased.

Changes in intravascular complement, kininogen, and histamine during Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction in secondary syphilis.
Nine patients with secondary syphilis and one control subject were observed for eight hours after the administration of penicillin. Serial clinical observations were made, and blood samples were obtained for the analysis of complement, histamine, and kininogen. Six patients showed Jarisch-Herxheimer reactions, the intensities of which were found to parallel certain changes in activity of comple...

متن کاملJarisch-Herxheimer reaction among HIV-positive patients with early syphilis: azithromycin versus benzathine penicillin G therapy
INTRODUCTION The Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction, a febrile inflammatory reaction that often occurs after the first dose of chemotherapy in spirochetal diseases, may result in deleterious effects to patients with neurosyphilis and to pregnant women. A single 2-g oral dose of azithromycin is an alternative treatment to benzathine penicillin G for early syphilis in areas with low macrolide resistance...
متن کاملJarisch-Herxheimer reaction after penicillin therapy among patients with syphilis in the era of the hiv infection epidemic: incidence and risk factors.
The incidence of and risk factors for Jarisch-Herxheimer (JH) reaction were investigated prospectively among 240 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected and 115 HIV-uninfected patients with syphilis who received penicillin treatment. The overall rate of JH reaction was 31.5% (34.6% in HIV-infected patients and 25.2% in HIV-uninfected patients). In multivariate analysis, risk factors for JH ...
